Surgically Clean Air
Operatories Equipped with Dedicated Air Purification Systems
During dental procedures, many substances can become aerosolized, or broken down into small enough particles that they can be carried through the air. Most of these particles are harmless, but some–such as viruses, mold, allergens, and certain chemicals–can make us sick.
That’s why each of Hellertown Dental Group’s eight operatory rooms is equipped with a dedicated Jade™ medical grade air purification system from Surgically Clean Air.
How It Works
Jade air purifiers use a six-stage filtration process to capture dust particles, volatile organic chemicals (VOCs), gases, bacteria, viruses, and many other pollutants that are found in inside air. The Jade’s HEPA-RX filter removes 99.9998 of particles as small as 0.1 microns in size. That’s the size of a typical virus. Anything that remains is destroyed with high-intensity ultraviolet (UV) light inside Jade’s titanium dioxide coated chamber. Both UV light and titanium dioxide degrade chemicals, damage bacterial membranes, and inactivate viruses.
The Jade system is manufactured to provide four to five air exchanges per hour, yet it produces no more noise than a household refrigerator!
What about COVID-19?
Coronavirus is primarily transmitted via droplets, particles that are greater than five microns in size. These droplets normally can’t travel far in the air (that’s why we’ve all been advised to stay six feet apart). Coronavirus, however, is an “opportunistic agent.” While it usually spreads through droplets, it may, under special circumstances, be transmitted via fine particle aerosols. The good news, though, is that viruses, such as H1N1, influenza, SARS and COVID-19, are relatively sensitive and unstable, thus making them easily destroyed or captured when their environment is altered, as it is in the Jade air purifier.
